• STEM Matters NYC 2024 Summer Programs

    What is STEM Matters NYC?

  
  ● STEM Matters NYC offers a variety of experiential science and STEM enrichment programs for students entering grade 1 through grade 12 in September 2024.
  ● Programs take place at museums, zoos, parks, and experiential learning centers in all five boroughs.
  ● Students learn from experts in various STEM fields by doing hands-on activities and real-world learning.
  ● From animal science to aviation, marine biology to mechanics, ecology to engineering, and so much more, we are inviting students to discover, investigate, design, and create with our cultural partners!

  Who Is the Program For?

  Students entering grades 1 through 9 in September 2024:
  ○ Apply for 1-week camps.
  ○ If selected to participate, students only participate in one camp session max.

  ● Students entering grades 10 through 12 in September:
  ○ Apply for multi-week high school programs.
  ○ Choose from programs that run for two or four weeks.

  Programs run various weeks starting July 8 through the week of August 12 and run
  9:00am-3:00pm.
  ● Programs are offered at: the NYC DOE’s Genovesi Environmental Study Center and the NYC
  Center for Aerospace and Applied Mathematics, as well as the Billion Oyster Project; Intrepid Museum;
  MakerSpace NYC; New York Aquarium; New-York Historical Society; Pellettieri Stone Carvers'
  Academy; Queens Botanical Garden; Queens County Farm Museum; Queens Zoo; Rubin Museum of
  Art; Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden; Staten Island Museum; UrbanGlass; and Wave
  Hill.

  ● Each site serves only a specific group of grade levels.
  ○ In the application, once families enter their child’s grade level, they will see the sites open to their child.

• Fresh Air Fund 2024 Summer Camps

  The Fresh Air Fund is a not-for-profit youth development organization,
  that has provided FREE, SAFE & FUN summer experiences to more than
  1.8 million children from New York City’s underserved communities
  since 1877.
  ▪ We aim to keep the magic of summer alive through outdoor programs.

  Eligibility Requirements
  ❑ Must live in and go to school in one of the 5 boroughs
  ❑ Must be between 8 and 18 years of age (by July 1, 2024)
  ❑ Family must meet USDA income eligibility requirement
  ❑ FAF Medical form signed, stamped and dated
  5/1/2023 or later
  ❑ Copy of the immunization record
  ❑ Health Insurance Card (front & back)
  ❑ Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is NOT required
  for children however is Strongly encouraged

  All Fresh Air Fund staff are required to have up to
  date COVID-19 vaccinations.

• Resetting Your Child's Google Account Password Tutorial

   

  Resetting your child’s Google Classroom Email Password.

  Go to the Department of Education website: schools.nyc.gov

  Scroll down to the Technology for Families section and click onto STUDENT tab.

  You will then click onto the menu option: Resetting your child’s password and then under that will be the instructions to create a pin for the account.

  You will need your child’s osis number and you can get that from your child’s teacher or even the main office.  Ms. Becco can give it to you also, just email her at sbecco@schools.nyc.gov.

  After you’ve changed the password and created a pin, you can go back to the homepage and click onto teachhub on the top right side of the toolbar.  You may or may not have to sign on again.

  Remember the username is everything before the @ symbol in the email address and the password is case sensitive.

  Once you get into the teachhub, you may not see much, and if that is the case, you should then click on the heading that includes your child’s grade, next to the Welcome.

  You will then see a host of apps that your child may need access to, for example: Google Classroom, Zoom, Google Meet, Gmail, etc.
