If your child is interested, fill out the slip and then you will get a packet . The whole school is participating in the STEM Fair. Each class is doing a project, and each child has an opportunity to work on a project independently or in a  group. The packet has many resources to help you learn about what your child is learning.

  • It is preferred if your child chooses a project that aligns with what the child is learning in the classroom. March 26th will be the STEM Fair for all parents. The projects are due on the same day. It will start before Sunnyside Afterschool ends, giving parents the opportunity to go and see the projects when picking up their child (4:30pm - 6pm). Ms. Mileo said we need scientists that will solve problems , She can be contacted any time by email, which is available on google classroom, the chat or the school website.

4. Minutes: Approval and minutes distribution protocol

  • As per our last meeting, we need to define a protocol for past meetings minutes distribution.  This is an important part of the meetings that have been overlooked on our part.  She said that we would like to briefly share the minutes from our past meetings with your approval.
  • We are also asking you to let us know your preferred method of distribution by taking the poll at this meeting.  Parents and staff voted. Mr. Daliposki clarified that we cannot post the minutes prior to sharing them at the beginning of every meeting. He said that it is like the SLT protocols: We write the minutes, then show them at the following PTA general meeting and get approval and only then can we post them online. A parent asked who is allowed to vote and Mr. Daliposki answered it is PTA which includes parents and staff, so all are allowed to vote.
  1. Shared and approved at the beginning of PTA General Membership Meeting (17% vote)

  2. Posted on the school website days after the meeting.( 50% vote)

  3. Distributed by email to each parent (33% vote)

  • Carmen ended the poll with 50% of votes for posting the minutes on the school website. Carmen then proceeded to share the previous minutes from previous months since we never shared them before. Mr. Daliposki emphasized the importance of sharing the minutes and getting approval at the beginning of each meeting prior to proceeding. Mr. Daliposki and Ms. Cohen suggested that next time we can drag the document with the minutes to the chat and have parents look through them at the beginning of the meeting. We got approval and a second approval for the October Minutes.
  • A parent asked if we have the previous minutes translated into other languages. Carmen answered that the minutes are not yet translated but will work on them and then post all English and translated minutes on the websites.  Mr. Daliposki said that DOE can translate to Bengali but it will take 2-3 weeks for them to be translated. Ska Ska suggested Google Translate, Mr. Daliposki and another parent both agree that
Google Translate is not accurate in translating. Mr. Daliposki encourages a more professional translation.
  • Carmen then shared the October, November, December and January minutes, emphasizing that with each month, the minutes are improved and pointed out that in the first months the minutes didn't have the principal’s report but the January one had.  All past meetings minutes were shared and approved  as is.
  • Mr. Daliposki suggested sending him and Ms. Cohen the minutes in text form and they can have the website automatically translate the minutes into many languages and then they will post them. Ms. Cohen will work with Ms. Becco on the translation and post the minutes on the website.
  • A parent asked about recess in cold temperatures, which was in the December minutes. Mr. Daliposki emphasized he must follow the chancellor's regulation regarding the weather and when to and when not to take the students out for recess.

  • The end balance for the month of February was $5, 617.50.

8. Health Information with Nurse Basma:

  • Nurse Basma introduced herself, she has been working at P.S 199 for 5 years now. This is her second time presenting for parents. Parents always ask why she sends their children home. She referred to the chart on the screen which lists reasons when to keep your child at home. Ms. Basma listed that if your child has fever, vomiting, Diarrhea, rash, head lice, eye infection and cough that won't stop then parents must keep their child home. A child is allowed to return to school only once they have been clear from the list for at least 24 hours.

  • She emphasized that giving your child medicine the night before and the morning of and sending your child to school is not appropriate. A child needs to no longer have vomiting, diarrhea, fever, etc. for at least 24 hours. She said that many parents worry about their child’s attendance but do not worry as long as they are notifying the school and/or teacher. The parents are encouraged to bring a doctor’s note. Ms. Basma said another issue is head lice. The students are not allowed to return to school if they have live bugs. They will be inspected once they return to make sure they don't have live head lice. She also spoke about rash. Some students come to school with an irritated rash that is scratched, and this is not safe for other students because all children touch surfaces and each other and that is contagious.

  • She also spoke about the importance of hygiene and clean clothing. She said if anyone needs assistance to never hesitate and ask the school for assistance and they will help. She also covered the topic of eye infection. She said red eyes (stye) are not allowed to come to school unless they are treated because this is contagious and that we care about all students and don't want the students to spread the stye.

  • Parents are not allowed to send mediation with their child to school. They can come and ask Ms. Basma if they can administer the medication in school. Parents can also bring a doctor's note that indicates their child needs to be administered the medication during school hours and the parent is welcome to come and administer the medication. Any expired medication the parent sends to school will remain until the parent comes to discard it or allows Ms. Basma to discard it. If the parent sends medication with the child, Ms.Basma will hold it for 7 days until the parent comes to take it. If the parent doesn't come and take the medication, Ms. Basma will discard it herself. Ska ska commented that she didn't know about the medical form and that is a useful piece of information. Ms. Basma emphasized that there are general forms for students and there are specific forms such as ones for asthma, allergies, seizures etc. Parents must have the doctor fill out the form and approve it then return it to Ms. Basma. Mr. Daliposki thanks Ms. Basma and Ms. Vicki for always being on top of everything and especially all the necessary forms. Ms. Basma said the DOH said P.S 199 is best at keeping track of students and form. Ms. Basma ended with saying we are here anytime you need any help and let the school know
