PTA General Membership Meeting Minutes
Friday, January 17th, 2025 at 8:30 AM

AGENDA:
- Welcome:
- Carmen started by welcoming all the parents and students in the auditorium and on Zoom. She introduced herself and the other PTA members. She congratulated the Charter Champions and explained we will begin with the Awards, then Principal’s report then proceed to the PTA meeting. Once all was finished Carmen proceeded to discuss past and future events.
- Principal’s Report:
- Dentrone presented the report on behalf of Mr. Daliposki.
- We ended the year with the December Music and Dance performances which were amazing. She thanked Ms. Montalbano and Ms. Gabriel for their amazing work with the students.
- We began the new year with the Fire Department of New York coming to each classroom and an event specific for parents on Fire safety.
- This week we had the 5th Grade graduation Picture Day on 1/16.
- There will be round three instructional visits for HMH for grades 2-5.
- Kindergarten open house is today, 1/17/25.
- Next week Dental smile is all week for those students who filled out the forms.
- There is a social emotional event for parents on 1/28/25.
- Next week the before and after school clubs begin. The clubs will be divided into 2 cycles, each cycle will last 8 weeks and that will allow all students to participate in a club.
- Lastly, Respect for All week will begin 2/10/25 to 2/14/25. This concludes the principal’s portion.
- Past Events:
- Carmen began saying that on 12/19/24 we had the NYC Reads Potluck. Thanks to all school staff and parents who contributed their time and delicious food to this event.
- On 01/07 we had the NYCSA/Save for College Account Set up Drive – Flu Season Awareness Workshop with Nurse Basma. We had 24 parents joining us. Nurse Basma gave details on the 6 reasons to keep the kids at home and when to come back to school. Parents appreciated the information and felt it was important to repeat it for those parents who could not make it. We are planning to have another event in the future. Thank you, Ms Annlex, Nurse Basma and Ms. Becco.
- 01/16 5th Grade Graduation Picture Day. Had a good group of parents who volunteered, and everything went smoothly. Thanks to the parents who volunteered for this event. Looking forward to Spring Picture Day, tentative date March 27th, 2025.
- Future Events:
- 01/30 Bollywood Dance Lesson. We had such a great turnout for Family Salsa dance lessons that we want to bring another dance event for sharing. The Bollywood Dance is from Southeast Asia. The event is just an hour, and it will take place after the Sunnyside Afterschool program. There will be food for purchase.
- 02/13 Movie Night. We initially planned for a movie night in January but had to change the date to F
- 02/26 PTA General Membership Meeting on Wednesday evening 6pm will be virtual.
- Financial Report and Budget:
- Treasurer Saira Khan-Torres began by stating that we received your donations for the PTA membership dues. Thank you for your generous support. We have collected $1,547.
- We currently have $5,047 in bank.
- As we’re planning our Bollywood Dance Lesson for 1/30, with the support of Ms. Gabriel, our dance teacher, we are getting a dance instructor for that event. We requested approval for these expenses:
- $150.00 for dance instructor
- $200.00 for drinks and food that will be sold during this event.
- We also asked for approval of $350.00 for drinks and food to be sold during the movie night on 2/13.
- Q&A
- We were asked if we shared expected expenses in the last meeting. Saira replied yes, we shared the expected expenses it was part of our agenda in our last virtual meeting in December.
- We were asked if we already chose a movie title for movie night. Khulood answered we have not yet, but we will soon, and the flyers will be sent out.
- We were asked how much we spent on the Staff appreciation treat event. Carmen and Saira responded that they spent around $300 and referred the parents to the detailed report on the screen.
- We were asked about posting the minutes online. Carmen said she has not yet seen other schools post them in their websites and that it seems that it is not mandatory, but we need clarification on this and are looking into it. However, whoever wants the minutes can ask any of the board members and we will kindly send the minutes via email.
- We asked parents if they are all in the WhatsApp group. We had one parent who needed assistance joining the group. Saira helped her join.
- We also asked for volunteers for the Dental Smile that is taking place the following week. We got no responses from the parents in the auditorium.
