PTA minutes:

  1. PTA members introduced. Carmen explained what the PTA is and how parents can be involved.
  2. Khulood recapped the September election and talked about the WhatsApp group as our form of communication. Also, mentioned that we need to create a committee with a few of the current members and 2 or 3 other parents to sit together (one meeting) and review the bylaws and make necessary changes. For example, the schedule of current meetings to the current scheduled times (every 3rd Friday of the month after dropping off at 8:30am) and the Quorum (number of members) and any additional changes.  2 parents volunteered for the Bylaws committee (Vanessa Ochoa and Daisy Lliguicota).
  3. Saira and Georgina discussed our current budget being about $5200 from the previous PTA. We are not sure exactly what will be done for the entire year, but we do have plans until the end of December.
  4. We have a Salsa Dance for Families coming up October 23rd and 24th in the evening from 6-7pm both days. This event will cost us $200 per session so that is a total of $400 for both sessions.
  5. We plan to sell breakfast and Coffee for voters on election day on Nov 5th.
  6. We asked for approval on the expense of $200.00 per lesson for the Salsa Dance lessons, $645 to pay for the movie license, as well as for $500.00 for office supplies for the year ahead.
  7. We also have plans to Involve family or small business by doing vendor events at the school. This is one way we support small businesses, and they help the PTA with their contributions. We will ask parents to reach out to us if they are interested and we can plan the event.
  8. Then we had a Q & A. A parent asked whether the PTA meeting could be hybrid instead because other parents can't always attend. We will consider that option, but our goal is to get as many parents in as possible. Parents also asked how to reach the members on WhatsApp group. We encouraged them to send individually and perhaps put in our emails if parents want to reach us via email.
  9. At the end of the meeting two parents approached us regarding doing something for Halloween such as face painting, perhaps something after school and within the time range so after school students can participate . We liked the idea and want to consider it even if it is not for Halloween, perhaps even with the vendor's event.
